\begin{abstract}
The Python ECOSYS package implements the ECOSYS methodology for assessing
the radiological consequences of radionuclide releases, based on ECOSYS-87
by Müller and Pröhl (1993) and subsequent extensions. Given time-integrated
air concentrations, wet deposition and rainfall, the model calculates
radionuclide transfer through soil, vegetation, animal feed and human food
chains. Seasonal growth, harvest, storage and biological retention determine
the evolution of activity concentrations. Human exposure is assessed through
ingestion, inhalation and external irradiation, accounting for age-dependent
diets, dose coefficients and environmental residence patterns. Dated releases
can be combined to estimate time-dependent concentrations, individual doses
and collective population dose. This reference presents the governing
equations, physical assumptions, parameter sources and numerical methods,
together with verification tests and comparisons with reference calculations.
A source-code map connects the scientific formulation to its implementation.

\noindent\textbf{How to read this document.} For physics, follow Parts I--III,
using Appendix A for symbols. For code, begin with Part IV and the
implementation subsections in Part II; all \codefn{path:line-range} links
refer to the source snapshot named above. Red numbered margin annotations
lead to the verification notes at the end.
Historical implementation details and the reference-run divergence inventory
are in Appendix~\ref{app:vba}. All source links target the \texttt{\commit}
release tag.
